Medion
Medion - Katakana
Medion
Click for Character Tactics

He is the son of Emperor Domaric and a lady of common people, Melinda. Domaric offered his favorite concubine a mansion, where she and her son could live peacefully and far away from the fashionable society. But when Medion was 10 years old, he was taken away from his mother against his will. The queen ordered him to live in the palace and learn the necessary knowledge to be a prince. After that, he encountered someone he can trust with all his heart, Campbell. In the castle, Medion is in a difficult situation of being looked down by his brothers and other nobles. Because of Campbell’s support, he did not succumb to adversities and has become a young man with a strong will.

His desire is to free his beloved mother from her constrained life. On the other hand, he also endeavors to earn love from his cold father. This has become his weak spot. These two of Medion’s wishes: “to be kind toward the common people” and “to show my abilities in front of my father” are like the two sides kept balanced on a pair of scales. Medion kept wobbling between these two sides and couldn’t decide which is more important. On the way from Saraband to Storich, Domaric cunningly used Medion’s indecisiveness to manipulate him. He not only gave Medion chances to show his abilities, but also gave seemly good reasons so Medion wouldn’t feel like he’s being a cruel intruder. Therefore Medion can chose to obey his father without going against his other wish too much.

He does not consider himself one of the privileged class, and criticizes the hierarchical society. He is popular among the common people and soldiers. Not to mention countless ladies who fall for those blue-green eyes.
Campbell
Campbell - Katakana
Campbell
Click for Character Tactics

Campbell was born in a lower-class noble family. Campbell's father was well known as an honest and upright man. (Okay, an honest and upright centaur.) He was kind and gentle to the common people, therefore other nobles looked down upon him and his family. Young Campbell couldn't stand this so he questioned his father, “why can't he be sly like all the other nobles?” His father only told him, "someday you will understand."

At that time Campbell couldn't understand, so his relationship with his father was quite tense. When he finally grew to understand his father's ideal, his father had died on the battlefield. Campbell had lost the chance to apologize to his father forever. This became a deep scar in his heart.

So when he met Medion, who also grew up in a similar situation, he supported Medion with all his heart. Prince Mageron offered to make him a general if he would leave Medion and serve in Magernon’s army. He turned down this offer without a second thought, even though this might annoy the first prince and bring him danger.

Campbell is liberal and courageous, yet not blunt. He is not only Medion’s mentor, but also his trusted companion. They trusted each other even more than brothers. His only demerit is his large appetite that’s proportional to his courage.
Syntesis
Syntesis - Katakana
Syntesis
Click for Character Tactics

Syntesis is an elven girl was grew up in a slum. She was the head of the homeless children in that area, even boys were no match for her. The turning point of her life was the day she and Uryudo got into a quarrel and were surrounded by bullies. Medion, who was still a child at that time, but already a good swordsman, drove the bullies away and saved them. Although Medion preferred peace and quiet, Syntesis followed him back to the palace. She believed that no one could protect the prince better than her and insisted on joining Medion’s Army.

Medion’s friendship with Synbios would bring Medion danger. Because of this, she doesn’t like Synbios much.

She is always active and cheerful. If you disregard her short-temperedness and sharp tongue, she is a very lovely girl.
Uryudo
Uryudo - Katakana
Uryudo
Click for Character Tactics

Unlike Syntesis, Uryudo was born in a good family, but he and Syntesis have been close friends since they were little. Although they grew up together, their personalities are just the opposite. He is calm, cool, and has good at observing a situation. He still trusts Syntesis and follows her actions though.

After Syntesis joined Medion’s Army, he also joined because, “the only one who can suppress Syntesis when she loses her self control, is me.” But he doesn’t seem to succeed at that… Except letting Syntesis take out her temper on him I guess. Poor thing. Don’t be frustrated, go Uryudo!
Waltz
Waltz - Katakana
Waltz
Click for Character Tactics

During the battle with Edmund’s Army on Balsamo East Plain, Walz was bitten by an unknown bat and poisoned. She managed not to fall during the battle, but her symptoms grew worse. Garzel’s Army left her behind with the other wounded soldiers. While she was suffering from fever and poison in Balsamo HQ, Medion cured her. In gratitude she joined Medion’s army. She’s a powerful archer in the battlefield. I love it when she says those threatening words during a special attack!

Born as the only child in a lower-class knight family, she was raised as a boy. She also views herself as male and doesn't want to be regarded as inferior to men on the battlefields. She emphasises this pretty much in the headquarters when Medion talks to her.
Rock
Rock - Katakana
Rock
Click for Character Tactics

Rock is a beast man warrior of Garzel’s Army. He was wounded during the battle with Edmund’s Army on Balsamo East Plain and stayed in the headquarters. Rock recovered his strength pretty quickly but he couldn’t leave others behind, so he decided to stay in Balsamo to look after them. When he was at a loss, seeing one companion die and Walz suffer more and more and he can’t do anything, Medion arrived. Relieved and grateful to see Walz healthy again Rock also joined Medion’s Army after Walz.

He enjoys having a drink in the tavern after battles. Looks like Campbell have found someone who shares the same interest. (I just can’t picture Campbell dragging Medion into a small tavern and drinking one pint of beer after another. Rock would be much better.) He also likes to eat fish and was quite excited when they arrived in Anafect. Too bad they didn’t stay for dinner there.

He seems to know Walz quite well, perhaps likes her a little bit? I think they would make a cute couple. One of the things he said several times in HQ is, “bah, Walz is still a girl after all.” I bet Walz would feel like teaching him a lesson if she hears that.
Bernard
Bernard - Katakana
Bernard
Click for Character Tactics

Bernard is a young, courageous archer full of a sense of justice. His flaw is being too outspoken, and I bet many people who only played Scenario 1 dislike him for that.

He’s patriotic and believes in his country. But encountering Synbios has somehow shook his belief in what is right and what is wrong….

After the incident in Saraband, General Reliance’s (Rogan in the English version) Navy was assigned under General Garzel’s command. Reliance noticed how reluctant Bernard was because of his distaste toward Garzel, so he sent Bernard on a special mission to investigate the suspicious monks in Balsamo.

Bernard bumped into the fake Benetram in Balsamo Inn before the Bulzome Sect caught him. Therefore he believed Aspinia joined hands with Bulzome Sect and abducted the Emperor. So you can imagine what mood he’d be in when he see Benetram (the real one this time) again when Synbios freed him. After escaping from Balsamo, he had the time to think more. And started to suspect what he had seen is not the truth. Therefore he followed the Bulzome Sect into Dusty Village to investigate more. He met Medion and joined his army there.

Every soldier in Reliance’s Army is proud to be part of Reliance’s Army and looks up to General Reliance. That includes Bernard. Half of the lines he speaks in the headquarters mention Reliance. If General Reliance really joined Medion’s Army and Grantack still picked David to lead the reserve team in the final battle, he could expect to hear lots of complaint from Bernard! Because of that I thought his line in Remotest HQ would be about Reliance too. But no! Instead he apologized to Synbios for his rudeness in Balsamo Inn. Looks like this has been bothering him since they figured out who the real abductor is. Which proved he isn’t a rude blunderer after all, right?
Zero
Zero - Katakana
Zero
Click for Character Tactics

Like his older sister, Zero was also a part of the Flagard Defense Army. His main job is investigating and carrying out orders instead of combat.

During the Saraband Peace Conference he and Eldar were guarding Lord Conrad’s safety. After the war broke out they set off to rescue King Benetram. Because of their righteousness, they couldn’t turn a blind eye to people in need. They stopped on their way to free the train from the hands of bandits, where they met Benetram and Synbios by coincidence. After a heated battle, Zero defeating a squad of bandits on his own. Then he was sent to Medion to aid him and also as a messenger. His flying back and forth between two armies saved Medion’s army from crisis several times.

He is an inexperienced young lad; fearless, cheerful, and full of curiosity. He respects his sister, but sometimes complains that she worries about him too much and still treats him like a little boy.
Hazuki
Hazuki - Hiragana
Hazuki
Click for Character Tactics

Hazuki is a Kunoichi (female ninja) from Far East Village. Her father brought her on a mission to kill the rogue ninja Yasha, who assassinated the Lord of Far East and fled with the village’s secret ninja scroll. They came to Destonia because they heard that Yasha was there. On their way they saw Dusty bandits wrecking the iron bridge of the Cross-continental Railway. They tried to stop them but were outnumbered. Hazuki’s father was badly wounded and fell into the river. Hazuki jumped in after him. They were washed down the river and met Medion’s Army near Anafect. Although Medion’s Army tried, Hazuki’s father died after his last words, “please take care of my daughter. Don’t let her face Yasha alone…”

Hazuki joined Medion’s Army and continued her quest for Yasha. She endured cold and harsh ninja training and sometimes says scary things like “born in darkness and dies in darkness, that’s a ninja’s fate.” But she still has a delicate heart. She’s not quite used to the living style in East Parmecia and misses Far East, and her father, a lot.

Although she doesn’t show her sorrow to others, her father still means a lot to her. While other ninjas pray to buddha or god for strength, she prays to her father. Although she’s not a mature kunoichi yet, she’s an important fighter in Medion’s Army. Could she be the little girl that said, “I want to be a great kunoichi like Akane when I grow up!” in Far East Village when we visit there in Shining the Holy Ark?
David
David - Katakana
David

David is the leader of Stamp Village. Forest elves and forest dwarves of Stamp Village guard the forest in middle Barrand and the Holy Land of Elbesem. They swore to protect the Elbesem Sect and the Staff of Besem with their lives. They are also excellent craftsman. They use the fair wood in Stamp Forest to carve utensils & instruments needed for religious ceremonies and provide them to Elbesem.

Hedoba
Hedoba - Katakana
Hedoba
Click for Character Tactics

The diva of forest elves. When she sits on the highest branch and sings, her beautiful voice can be heard throughout the forest. Her lover is the leader of Stamp Village, David, whom she loves and trusts deeply.

She was abducted by the Bulzome Sect to make her tell where Gracia went. Then she was brainwashed and attacked the ones who came to save her. Later she joined Medion’s Army because David did so. “David’s battle is my battle.”

She can share feelings with plants, flowers, and natural spirits. When in Swampland she said, “even trees and flowers are weeping for Madam Iria’s fate.”

Hedoba grew up around nature and loves the nature, she feels uneasy in artificial cities like Saraband. Barrand seems okay for her though. If she can say, “this place is much bigger than Stamp. Should I go buy some souvenirs?” I guess it’s not too bad.

Hera
Hera - Katakana
Hera

Hera is a trainee nun of the Elbesem Sect. When she was in the Elbesem Shrine waiting for Gracia’s return, the Bulzome Sect raided. She and some villagers who came to worship were taken hostage. When she led the villagers to escape they met Medion’s Army. She didn’t trust Medion at first, but David assured her Medion is on the same side as General Reliance so he can’t be evil. After Medion’s Army defeated the Bulzome Sect she trusted them completely and joined Medion’s Army. She looks up to Gracia and cares a lot about him. She seems to be a good friend of Kahn, who is also a trainee monk of the Elbesem Sect.

She is kind and gentle, and loved by the villagers of Elbesem Village. Children even view her as their older sister.
Robby
Robby - Katakana
Robby
Click for Character Tactics

Robbie, the guardian of the Elbesem Shrine, was put in sleep mode since a thousand years ago. Legends say that if the gem in his eye is installed, the invincible fighting machine Robbie would wake again (I guess now we all know not all legends are true).

He is the product of ancient techniques. But during the long sleep some errors developed in his programs. First the voice function is damaged, resulting in a squeaky voice and the inability to finish a sentence without stopping now and then. Also, he cannot use his full battle functions. Now he can only use “native mode” in moving, aka walking. But in this mode his weight prevents him from moving swiftly. Luckily with his heavy armor and long range attacks he is still quite useful in battle.

I’m more inclined to believe that he’s too rusted to move fast. He did complain, “heavy moisture and salt… I can’t stand that….” When we were on the Seagate. And “are we going to travel on water again?” before leaving Saraband.
Arthur
Arthur - Katakana
Arthur
Click for Character Tactics

White centaurs are uncommon and considered noble. Centaurs with the ability to use magic are extremely rare. Is this magic-using white centaur the one we know from Shining Force? There’s no answer.

Arthur is a wondering knight from Guardiana. He was on a quest for the Holy Grail, but somehow he got tired of all the killing on the battlefields and retired to Saraband, washing shirts as a hobby. But after hearing about Synbios and Medion, the knighthood inside him was ignited, and urged him to return to the battlefield. So he joined Medion’s Army when he met Medion the second time in Saraband.

Although he joined the Destonian army, he does not agree with the Emperor’s way of doing things. He felt sympathy for Garosh and Jade who had to fight against their will. He also said it’s against chivalry to not save a lady (Madam Iria) in distress.

Before the final battle he said Walz is a nice girl. Well, with Walz being the masculine one and Arthur being the one who does the laundry and dishes, this might be a weird yet lovely couple.
Garosh
Garosh - Katakana
Garosh
Click for Character Tactics

Garosh and his older brother left their homeland to seek a broader horizon and a better life. They joined the Saraband Guard and began their new life there. Garosh fell in love with the dorm keeper’s daughter and Garosh’s big brother was promoted to captain of Saraband Guard not long ago. When things seemed to move smoothly, the Bulzome Sect’s action deprived them of their little happiness. Garosh was saved by Synbios’ Battalion, but he couldn’t save his beloved brother from the hands of the Bulzome Sect.

After that he decided to use his life to fight for peace, so he joined Medion’s Army. Because he and his younger brother, Jade, made a promise, “if one day we meet on battlefield, both of us will fight fair and square.” Also because they both have reasons why they must fight, no matter how reluctant he is, he had to see his beloved brother die in front of him again...
Jde
Jade - Katakana
Jade
Click for Character Tactics

Jade is the youngest son in his family. When his two older brothers left to earn more money for the whole family, he stayed home to take care of their parents, his wife, and his young daughter.

If Garosh dies
Jade and his brothers kept in touch with pigeons. He received a letter from Garosh’s lover soon after the death of his two brothers. Because at that time people in Saraband thought it was Aspinia who raided Saraband, Jade also believed it was his home country’s army that killed his brother. To seek revenge, he joined Medion’s Army. After he finally discovered who the real murderer was, he joined the Expedition in hopes to defeat the Bulzome Sect.

If Garosh lives
In this case, Jade is the captain of the Headland Defense. Dakka, the Lord of Headland held Jade’s parents as hostage to make sure he did his best to hold back Medion’s Army. Although he knows Dakka is using them to buy time for him to arrange the trap in the cave, and that there’s little chance for him to win, he still said, “Didn’t we have a promise? There’s nothing more to say. I will fight with all my might to defeat you, my brother! And I wish you would do the same.” After he was defeated, he only told Garosh, “do not feel sorrow for me... Just be careful of the trap Dakka set. Please live my life for me, take care of our parents, and see the day peace arrives in this land for me…”
Penko
Penko - Katakana
Penko
Click for Character Tactics

She’s the female form of the “Pen” race. The difference between her and Pen of Sinbios’ Army is she’s pink in appearance. When Medion tried to let a hen hatch the giant egg found in Iro Village, out popped Penko! Afterwards this unreliable companion joined Medion’s Army. Only Medion can understand her words, others can only hear her squeaks. She thinks that her beauty is unmatched. She’s a very prideful girl indeed. In fact, she’s too proud to go over the hassle of bringing up children. So she shoved this chore to Pen. But even though she dumped their 8 children to Pen, she still worries about them. It seems that there’s still a little bit of motherhood inside her.

Pappets
Pappets - Katakana
Pappets
Click for Character Tactics

Pappets lives with a prognosticator in a small village deep in the forest northeast of Aspia. He grew up with animals in the woods, and has the incredible ability to communicate with animals and monsters. One day the old prognosticator foresaw the Jumesyn who will save the world, and told Pappets it was his fate to aid the expedition. After seeing Medion’s face in the crystal ball, Pappets set off on his journey looking for Medion.

Grantack
Grantack - Katakana
Grantack

Old Grantack was assigned to be Prince Medion’s advisor by the Emperor. He is not only a wise advisor, but an astrologist and musician as well. He is old friends with Donhort the Republican knight, and Scholar, leader of the Resistance Force. People of his race, the Dragonewts, ruled the battlefield with their superior ability during the Independence War. He was one of them, even if he was already an advisor in the Imperial Army. Now he has aged and doesn't take part in combat anymore, but focuses on being an advisor. He is good at giving keen advice that hits the nail on the head. He cares a lot about Medion and is somewhat protective, but his attempt to stop Medion from hanging around in rural areas too much doesn’t often succeed. In Dusty Village, he looks very stressed when it seems like Campbell took Medion to “some place he shouldn’t go to” during the night.

He views Syntesis as his granddaughter and is keeping his eyes peeled to look for a good husband for her.
